  • Published:Monday, June 19, 2017

GlobalData’s Construction Intelligence Center is currently tracking stadium and arena construction projects globally with a total value of US$130.8 billion.

This pipeline comprises projects from the announced to execution stages. The Americas region has the highest-value project pipeline, at US$54.2 billion, equivalent to 41% of the global total. The US dominates the global market with projects with a value of US$50.1 billion due to its culture of mass outdoor entertainment and high expenditure by the major sporting leagues and by teams in the high schools and colleges on sporting facilities. There are a number of 100,000+ seat stadiums in the US whereas in Europe the largest stadium capacity is the 99,300 seat Camp Nou in Barcelona.

The stadium construction projects pipeline for the next two FIFA World Cups (in Russia in 2018 and Qatar in 2022) has a value of US$10.4 billion, and has a seating capacity of 1,074,000.
