Growth in UK Construction to Moderate

  • Published:Monday, April 30, 2018

In view of the poor start to the year and also reflecting ongoing political and business uncertainty surrounding Brexit, the CIC expects to see slow growth in the UK construction industry in 2018.

Construction activity came in relatively strongly in 2017, despite the Brexit uncertainty, largely due to the continuation of ongoing projects in regulated sectors and those backed by public finance.

However, there was a sharp downturn in early 2018. According to ONS data, construction activity in the UK contracted by 0.8% year-on-year in the three months to February 2018 (the latest figures available at the time of writing), and it was down by 3.0% year on year in February 2018.
